CREAM

Child Rights Education and Action Movement (CREAM) a flagship project of Don Bosco Hospet in partnership with BREADS Bangalore was launched in 2013 to establish child participation as the key to child development, child protection and promotion of child rights by establishing appropriate structures and networks in Ballari district. The key objective is to introduce child rights education in the school curriculum.
The first phase of CREAM was successfully completed in 2016 marking a paradigm shift from children as mere beneficiaries to children as active agents of social change. Through the creation of Child Rights Clubs (CRCs) in almost all the schools of the six taluks of Ballari district, we have been successful in empowering children to identify, prioritise issues relevant to them and be active partners in their own development. Further, the evening tuition centres in 15 different centres became a platform to assist the larger group of children in their learning and to disseminate information about child rights, Right to Education, prevention of child marriages and child labour.
The second phase of Child Rights Education and Action Movement (CREAM II) aims at will encouraging and enhancing children’s participation in the development process, to promote child rights and to ensure child care and protection. To this end, CREAM II will concentrate more on capacity building of different groups/individuals leading to advocacy actions for the theme at village, district and state levels.

Building on the success and experience of the first phase, CREAM II would launch into training adults as well to ensure an informed consent and acceptance by parents, social workers, teachers, government officials, members of local government, and other relevant community stakeholders for fostering children’s involvement in their development and to assure child rights promotion.
