TARUNI is an NGO that came into existence in 2005 to organize women into Self Help Groups (SHGs). It is functioning under the auspices of Don Bosco with the Director of Don Bosco Hospet as the Secretary. Through the very well-established 173 SHGs spread across the three taluks of Ballari District, around 2000 women are empowered by regular trainings in leadership skills, small scale business trainings, book writing etc.

The primary aim of TARUNI is to restore respect and dignity to women in rural areas of Ballari District. Regular monitoring of the SHGs, spreading of awareness on social issues concerning women, monthly meetings of the leaders of the SHGs have proven to be effective in transforming the life of rural women of the district. The women of TARUNI SHGs becoming ward councilors is proof enough for the success in having empowered and enhanced the life of women.
